Ethnic communities in the region are Taita, Taveta, Rabai, Kauma, Digo, Kambe, Gibana, Nduruma, Pokomo, Kamba and Arabs among others. Mombasa centre being a cosmopolitan city, other communities have migrated to the area. Most of the above communities practice small-scale farming, small-scale trading and pastoralisim.
