CCS Pwani Region covers a latitude that runs from 0 – 7,000 fts. above the sea level. Farming is not taken seriously some part of the region hence prompting food security problems.
A 10 miles corridor along the costal strip has very good rainfall. Communities that here grow various kinds of crop including Simsim for oil production, maize, cassava, potatoes and coconuts. Arabs who live abroad own this land hence the communities living there are squatters.
Taita hills has nice and cool climate with good rains. Crops grown in this area include bananas, beans, maize, yams, sweet potatoes, coffee, cadamia and vegetables. Zero grazing is practised in this. Population in Taita hills is very high.
The arid land occupies the largest part of the area covered by Pwani CCS. Communities living in this area walk long distances looking for water and depend on relief food. There are also cases of insecurity in this area.
Other activities that take place in the region include large-scale size growing, fruit growing and ranchers. Tsavo National Park is located in this region, and covers 2/3 of the 83,000 sq km that the region covers.
