Two-way progressive communication between the doctor and the patient facilitates a cure and enables the doctor to know for whom a medication works and for whom it doesn't. Feedback of this to pharmaceutics has kept medical care progressively effective.
Another goal for ACK's research will be to seek workable alternatives to whatever has been noted as an objectionable practice or institutional policy. However, we all need skills appropriate for this novel area. DOSS will work for the relevant capacity building and for ACK's debut. All this research and documentation for the resource centre will be preceded by a nationwide baseline survey that will map out each of the regions' needs, capacities and general information. DOSS will develop its collection of reference materials, books and periodicals for use by the implementing organs. This will include managing the archives for effective storage of history and past interventions as well as the establishment of internet research.
The Communication Unit of the Province issues a newsletter, which is basically on the Church's internal matters. DOSS will facilitate a semi-annual bulletin, ‘ The Church in Development '. It is intended that the Bishops and RCCS will receive a monthly e-newsletter featuring sermons, Opinion columns, commentaries and church updates. This will also be posted on the ACK website which will be revitalized and updated regularly. Videos will also be produced to promote certain themes as well as to present particular aspects of the ACK development work. DOSS also expects to work for enhanced harnessing of the mass media.
All ACK dioceses already have computers and email systems. The ongoing challenge has been instability of supporting infrastructure, particularly unsteady electricity and telephone connection and inconsistency of maintenance service as is typical in rural centres. The implication is that traditional means will still continue to be needed as backup to modern technology. Besides equipment is the task of collecting the items of information at the primary source. DOSS will aim to be an effective information centre amidst these practical realities.
CURRENT ACTIVITIES
Information Communication Technology (ICT)
We are reliably providing IT related technical support to the computer users within the DOSS office, the ACK Provincial Office, Language School and the ACK Guesthouse which are located within the same area but in different buildings. There is a multi-segments local area network which connects computers in the above offices together. Each office has a different workgroup. The currently the network is supporting 40 computers that are different workgroups and segments. The network is used for:
Both internal and external messaging.
Sharing of information and resources within the network
Internet Access
We also provide support to computer users in the 29 ACK Dioceses and other institutions. This support has not been reliably provided due to two main limitations:
Funds to do the field visit – Dioceses are required to fund the expenses incurred by the technicians during the repair visits. Some of the Dioceses are too financially constrained hence when their ICT Systems are down, it takes too long to have them repaired.
Personnel constrain - the two IT technical staff in DOSS office have other designated day to day responsibility.
Research
We have visited the 9 Christian Communities Services Regions to collect information on the development activities that are taking place in the regions with intention of compiling the Anglican Church of Kenya Social Development Profile. The information that has been collected is what is reflected in the RCCS link in this website.
Sustainability
These are income generating activities introduced to support some of DOSS activities. They include:
Computer training
Cyber café and related beaural services
Internet Subscription Services
IT Consultancy Services
Other Consultancy Services
The above activities have been able to sustain themselves. |
