•  FACILITATING FUND DEVELOPMENT

There has been a Stewardship and Fund Development programme. It is essentially the Local Resource Mobilization programme for building the capacity of the Church in order to financially support its social transformation initiatives through promotion of parishioners' giving. The potential for local fundraising has not been exploited at all and DOSS feels that it is the high time local initiatives were financed using local resources. Towards this end, DOSS will plan for and execute local fundraising events.

The strategic advantages of the Church for effective community development work are well recognized. Hence, it is of great importance to the poor that the Church continues to be in a position to keep offering services. Fund development is crucial to institutional sustainability of the Church. Many of the Bishops and clergy have attended the Stewardship and Fund Development training workshops backstopped by the Provincial Development Office. DOSS will seek to step up the programme.

Enhancing institutional capacity to manage funds and produce accounts is also important. The RCCS Coordinators have had a workshop on financial management. The RCCS themselves are piloting technical assistance to specific parishes in 3 dioceses (Nakuru, Embu and Kirinyaga). DOSS will continue to facilitate all this.
