Ethnic communities within Kajaido region

The population of Kajiado district is about 500,000 people (1999 census) majority of whom are the Maasai community. Other communities include:-

•  Kikuyu
•  Luhya
•  Luo
•  Kisii
•  Asians
•  Kalenjins
•  Meru

These communities have diverse cultures background while the Maasai practice livestock keeping, other communities practice mixed farming. In the urban and pre-urban areas the Kikuyus, Luhyas and Luos have small business.
