Agro-Economic Zones Data


Kajiado is described as being in Ecological zone 3-5 with a minimum rainfall – 500 to 1,250mm maximum. The Rainfall distribution is very poor.

Temperatures range from 20c – 41c degrees. In ecological zone 3 there is mainly Agricultural while in zones 4-5 it is mainly Livestock rearing

Humidity - Windy areas
- Cold and hot at night (diverse humidity)

Soil types - diverse
- sandy soil
- black cotton soil

Type of vegetation. This is mainly shrubs and sand in zone 4-5

The main community activity is pastoralisim. Other economic activities include –
•  Flower farming
•  Bee keeping
•  Ostrich farming (owned by non-locals and create small scale jobs to the community).
•  Flower farms (beneficiaries are non locals).

Nairobi
Nairobi is one of the most prominent cities in Africa politically and economically, and is a prominent social centre. It is ranked both as a global capital and an economic and cultural powerhouse.

The city has an elevation of 1661 m (5450 ft) above sea- level.

According to the 1999 Census, in the administrative area of Nairobi has 2,143,254 inhabitants. Nairobi has 880,000 people living below the poverty line approximately 44%. Poverty rates range from 32% in Westlands to 59% in Makadara across Divisions, and, perhaps not surprisingly, from 8% in Nairobi West to 77% in Makongeni across Locations.
