Highlights (Areas of priority)
a). Food Security
CCS will facilitate inculcation of appropriate subsistence farming/livestock technologies/skills, empowerment and lobbying/advocacy, increase by 20% access to production assets and increase food and livestock production by 20% to address the perennial food insecurity within MKE region by the year 2008.
b) Water Safety And Availability
CCS will be involved in training beneficiaries in water management skills, water lobbying/advocacy skills to achieve increase by 20 % of access to adequate safe water to 260,000 targeted beneficiaries in Mt. Kenya east region by the year 2008.
c) Gender Equity
CCS intends to give education for empowering communities on tools and skills of reduction of gender disparity and achieve 40% reduction of gender disparities in the region by the year 2008.
d) Advocacy for Human Rights
CCS intends to undertake multiple goals as: lobby for recognition of human rights, mediate for overcoming and settling disputes and conflicts, reduce across border conflicts in Moyale and Marsabit by 30%. Lobby, mediate and settle the inter-ethnic conflicts in Moyale, Marsabit, Isiolo, Meru North, Mbeere by about 40%. Lobby and mediate to reduce exploitation of children in the process of Miraa business in Meru North and Mbeere by 10% and facilitate increase by 10% of boy's school enrolment. Advocate for attitude and practice change with regard to Female Genital Mutilation by 10%. Advocate for increase of poor people access to production assets by 20% in all the districts in the region by the year 2008
e) Improvement Of Health
CCS will be involved in the promotion to increase community based health care and static curative health services by 10% through mobile clinics, dispensaries and hospitals in CCS MKE region by the end of 2008.
f) Hiv/Aids Control And Management
CCS will target reducing stigmatisation by 90%, prevalence rate from the current 7% to 3%. Facilitate establishing home based care for up to 80% of both the affected and infected. And provide VCT and ART to up to 50% of the region's population within 3 years by 2008.
g) Environmental Conservation
CCS will advocate reduction of logging and lumbering by 10%, facilitate increase of tree planting to reach 15 trees per person during the project period, advocate 90% of the target subsistence farmers to undertake agro-forestry, inter-cropping, and Soil conservation.
h) Disaster Preparedness And Management
There are 25,000 community people living in disaster prone zones of the regions who will be targeted for training and capacity building in disaster awareness, preparedness, response and mitigation by 2008.
