The essence of the work of the Church, as stated in Luke 4:18, Mark 16:16-18 and Mathew 28:18-20, is to bear witness to the love of Christ through gospel proclamation, Christ-like living and social action. The Anglican Church of Kenya combines the ministry of preaching the good news with community development programmes in a holistic approach to mission.

The ACK Directorate of Social Services is charged with the church's development issues.
